NEC Announces Spring Academic Honors; Rafter Named Outdoor Track Scholar-Athlete

Central Connecticut track and field standout Angie Rafter was named the 2022 Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete for women's outdoor track and field the conference announced Thursday. The NEC also released its spring Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Honor Roll recipients, which included 59 CCSU student-athletes.

Rafter has excelled on the track and in the classroom where she put together a 4.0 GPA as a graduate student studying Psychology. She graduated last spring with a 3.96 GPA in English and was recognized as the highest GPA for a graduating female student-athlete at CCSU. In the outdoor track season this spring, she pulled off the triple in the distance events by winning the 1,500m, 5,000m and the 10,000m en route to being named the Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) and the Most Valuable Performer. Rafter was named the NEC Track Athlete of the Week three times this spring and set school records in both the 5,000m and 10,000m runs this season. This is the latest honor for Rafter who was recognized as the NEC Female Team co-Student-Athlete of the Year last week. The decorated runner has also been active with CCSU SAAC and as the Graduate Student Intern overseeing the Wellness Room for Student-Athletes at CCSU, along with being a Research Assistant in the Assumption Lab.

All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours at their institution, maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.

Along with the scholar-athletes, the NEC announced its Spring Academic Honor Roll, consisting of a conference record 3,826 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade point average. There were also 1,473 student-athletes, including 29 Blue Devils, named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll with a 3.75 or better grade point average.

Clayton Goodrich, Tyrone Mack, Mark Rodriguez (men's track & field), Angie Rafter (women's track & field), Kim Howard and Alex Rogers (softball) all posted 4.0 GPAs.
