Martinez, Garofalo Earn ABCA All-Region Nods
Junior Noah Martinez and sophomore Luke Garofalo of the Central Connecticut baseball team earned ABCA/Rawlings Division I Northeast All-Region honors it was announced on Wednesday American Baseball Coaches Association. Martinez earned a spot on the First Team, while Garofalo was named to the Second Team.
This is the latest honor for Martinez following a strong 2022 campaign. He was named All-Northeast Conference First Team and All-New England First Team. He led the NEC in homeruns (15) and RBIs (62). He ranks sixth nationally driving in 1.38 runs per game and posted a .313 batting average and .620 slugging percentage. His homerun total is the most at Central since Pat Epps hit 18 homeruns in 2010. Martinez batted .417 with a homerun and three RBIs in three games to earn NEC All-Tournament honors.
Garofalo was also a First Team All-NEC pick as well as being named All-New England First Team by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association. Hehelped anchor the back end of the Blue Devils' bullpen and posted three saves in 43.0 innings of work across 18 appearances. He went 5-1 with a 1.26 ERA and had 57 strikeouts and limited opposing hitters to a .169 average. The righty tossed 6.0 shutout innings and earned the win in CCSU's win over FDU at the NEC Tournament.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America Teams will be announced the morning of Friday, June 17 prior to the start of the 2022 NCAA Div. I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth.
