Baseball Takes Second Straight From Wagner on Sunday
The Central Connecticut baseball team won its season-opening conference series with an 8-3 win on Sunday at Wagner at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ. The Blue Devils scored six runs in the fifth inning to build the winning margin.
Central travels to Fairfield on Wednesday before welcoming Bryant for a three-game Northeast Conference series next weekend.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central struck first with two runs in the third inning. Sophomore Elliot Good led off with a single and following an error with runners on first and second, junior Noah Martinez doubled to left center to drive home a pair of runs and make it 2-0.
- In the fourth, Wagner took advantage of two walks before putting runners on second and third following a groundout. A wild pitch would allow the first run home to make it 2-1.
- CCSU banged out six runs on six hits in the fifth to build a cushion. Central started the inning with four straight hits, including an RBI-double by junior Dan Covino and a RBI-single by Martinez to make it 4-1. A bases-loaded groundout by freshman Aidan Redahan scored Covino before freshman Kyle Gordon singled home another run to make it 7-1. Good would drive home a run with a two-out single to push the margin to 8-1.
- The Seahawks would score a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to cut the Central lead to 8-3.
NOTES
- Central recorded double-digit hits for the second straight game and fifth time in eight games.
- Covino went 3-for-5, while Gordon had a career-best 3-for-4 day. Martinez drove in three runs and had two hits.
- Good had two knocks and has a hit in eight straight games.
- Sophomore Anthony Mozzicato started and went 6.0 innings. He allowed two runs on two hits and struck out four.
- Junior Tim Buchek and sophomore Luke Garofalo combined to allow just one hit and one walk, while striking out four across the final 3.0 innings.
- CCSU head coach Charlie Hickey has a 590-513-5 record in 23 years at the school and is 696-574-6 overall.
