Baseball Pulls Away Late to Sweep Series at FDU on Sunday
Central Connecticut scored seven runs over the seventh and eighth innings to defeat FDU, 10-2, on Sunday and finish off the sweep of the Northeast Conference baseball series in Teaneck, NJ. Sophomore Anthony Mozzicato allowed just two runs in 7.0 innings of work for the win, while senior Sam Loda and junior Noah Martinez each hit homeruns.
The Blue Devils play at Hartford on Tuesday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS
- Loda opened the scoring with a solo homerun to leadoff the second inning for CCSU. The Knights came back with a two-run homerun of their own from Matthew Puello in bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
- Central tied the game with two outs in the third. Senior Jay Devito got on via a walk and scored on a single and an error off the bat off junior Dan Covino.
- CCSU edged in front in the sixth after a walk to freshman Aiden Redahan and an error allowed freshman Kyle Gordon to reach base and put runners on the corners. Sophomore Joe Rios would hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to make it 3-2.
- The Blue Devils loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh inning and after a pitching change, Martinez launched the first pitch he saw over the fence in right field to make it 7-2.
- Central tacked on runs in the eighth on a RBI groundout by Martinez and a two-run double by Loda to close out the scoring.
NOTES
- Mozzicato scattered four hits over 7.0 innings and struck out three. He did not allow a runner to reach second base after the second inning.
- The Blue Devils hit .302 as a team on the weekend and hit seven homeruns.
- Since a four-game slide April 5-12, Central has gone 10-1, including sweeping a pair of conference series.
