Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Navy Saturday
Central Connecticut split a doubleheader to open its season against Navy on Saturday at Terwilliger Brothers Field. The Blue Devils used a five-running inning to ride to a 5-2 win in game one, before falling 4-1 in the second game of the twinbill.
The Blue Devils and Midshipmen will play again Sunday at 1:00 p.m. to close out the three-game series.

- Central opened the scoring with a five-run fourth inning. Sophomore Dan Hussey laced a one-out double and back-to-back hit batters would load the bases. Sophomore Hunter Pasqualini would single into the gap and drive in two runs to make it 2-0. Following a fielder's choice, a walk would load the bases with two outs. Junior Noah Martinez delivered a two-run single to make it 4-0. After another walk put runners on first and second, sophomore Michael Torniero hit a infield single to drive in a run and make it 5-0.
- Sophomore Dominic Niman would start and toss 5.0 innings. He allowed a pair of hits in the first inning and Navy put runners on second and third, but would come away empty. He would then retire 13 straight hitters before running into trouble.
- Navy scored two runs in the sixth but sophomore Luke Garofalo came on to get out of the inning and then retired Navy in order in the seventh.
- Central got on the board in the top of the third after opening the inning with back-to-back singles by senior Sam Loda and sophomore Elliot Good. Pasqualini would follow with a fielder's choice to plate Loda and make it 1-0.
- Navy would score an unearned run in the bottom of the inning, but that was all the offense they could manage on sophomore Jake Neuman would leave after 5.0 innings.
- The Midshipmen would push across three runs in the sixth inning. Colin Smith and Logan Keller each singled in a run and a wild pitch would plate Eduardo Diaz to make it 6-3.
- Zach Ward and Landon Kruer would combine to allow just two hits and throw 5.0 shutout innings out of the bullpen for Navy.
NOTES
- Junior Noah Martinez has reached base in 22 consecutive games dating back to last season. He had three hits in the doubleheader.
- Junior Dan Covino went 3-for-6 with a run scored in the doubleheader.
- Sophomore Hunter Pasqualini extended his hit streak to 10-games in game one. He went 2-for-4 with two RBIs before going hitless in the second game.
- Niman made his second career start and would strike out four batters, while scattering five hits and walking none.
- Neuman made his first start and struck out two in 5.0 innings. He scattered seven hits and allowed one unearned run.
- Garofalo would strike out two in 1.0 inning of work in game one.
- Sophomore Patrick Reilly and senior John Mikosz each threw a scoreless inning in game two. Mikosz had two strikeouts.
