Baseball Eases Past Siena on Tuesday
Central Connecticut breezed by Siena, 16-4, on Tuesday in a non-conference baseball tilt at CCSU Baseball Field. The Blue Devils scored a season-high run total, doing most of their damage in the opening three innings.
The Blue Devils open a three-game conference series against Sacred Heart on Thursday.

KEY MOMENTS
- After the Saints scored a run in the top of the first, CCSU came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Blue Devils loaded the bases with three straight walks before senior Sam Loda laced a two-run single into left field. Following another walk to load the bases, junior Jack Nolan hit a sac fly to plate the third run of the inning.
- Central added four runs in the second inning. Senior Jay Devito hit a single with two runners on to plate a run and make it 4-1. Junior Dan Covino followed with a sac fly to drive in another run. With one out, Loda collected his second hit of the day, singling home Devito to make it 6-1. A wild pitch and error on the next play allowed Loda to score and make it 7-1.
- Siena would push across a run in the third, but CCSU responded by batting around in the bottom of the inning. Central loaded the bases on three walks before Siena got a pair of outs. Back-to-back walks to Loda and freshman Aidan Redahan brought home two runs. Following a pitching change, Nolan drew a walk to plate another run and make it 10-2. Sophomore Elliot Good drew Central's seventh walk of the inning to score a run before sophomore Michael Torneiro delivered a two-run single to make it 13-2.
- Siena would get solo home runs from Vincenzo Castronovo and Alex Milone in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, while the Blue Devils did not score again until the eighth. Good and junior Dylan Sanchez would lead off with back-to-back doubles. Sophomore Hunter Pasqualini reached on an error that scored another run before Covino hit his second sac fly of the game to round out the scoring.
NOTES
- CCSU head coach Charlie Hickey has a 593-519-5 record in 23 years at the school and is 699-580-6 overall in his career.
- Loda finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Torneiro and Covino each drove in two runs, while Pasqualini and Devito scored three runs apiece.
- The Blue Devils drew 15 base on balls in the game.
- Sophomore Randy Reyes started and tossed 2.0 innings. He allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts.
- CCSU did not allow a run over the final 4.0 innings. Sophomores Patrick Reilly, TJ Wainwright and Jake Neuman and freshman Vincent Spizzoucco scattered four hits with two strikeouts to finish out the game.
