Baseball Wins Sixth Straight, Downs Mount St. Mary's 9-1
Central Connecticut State stifled Mount St. Mary's, 9-1, on Saturday in Northeast Conference baseball action on Saturday in New Britain, CT. Freshman Vincent Spizzoucco allowed just two hits in 6.0 innings of work and sophomore Michael Torniero hit a grand slam to lead the way.

KEY MOMENTS
- Mount St. Mary's scratched out a run on a sacrifice fly in the second to take a 1-0 run. Spizzoucco would recover by retiring the next 12 batters for Mount.
- Central would put runners on second and third with two outs in the fourth. Sophomore Elliot Good would deliver a two-run double to push CCSU ahead, 2-1.
- The Blue Devils would bat through the order in the fifth, plating six runs on five hits. Junior Dan Covino would draw a walk and take advantage of an error to get to third base. Junior Noah Martinez got on following a strike three wild pitch that allowed Covino to score. Back-to-back singles would load the bases for Torniero who would curl a drive just fair down the left field line. Freshman Kyle Gordon followed with a single and would be driven home by a single from Good to make it 8-1.
- CCSU tacked on a run in the eighth after senior Sam Loda singled to drive in classmate Jay Devito to round out the scoring.

- CCSU head coach Charlie Hickey is 598-519-5 in 23 years at CCSU and has a 704-580-6 record overall.
- Spizzoucco allowed just one run on two hits in 6.0 innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
- Junior Tim Buchek tossed 3.0 perfect innings for his first save. He struck out two.
- Torniero, Gordon and Good, combined to go 6-for-12 with seven RBIs and three runs. The triow batted 7-8-9 in the lineup.
- Loda added two hits and freshman Aidan Redahan scored two runs.
