Late Homers Sink Baseball at Bryant on Friday
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped the opening game of a three-game Northeast Conference series at Bryant, 6-4, on Friday in Smithfield, RI. After the Blue Devils took the lead in the top of the eighth, the Bulldogs would score three runs in the bottom of the inning to claim the victory.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central would open the scoring in the second inning. After the first two hitters reached base, Bryant recorded back-to-back strikeouts and got an 0-2 count on sophomore Elliot Good. Good would respond by roping a single into left centerfield to drive in two runs and make it 2-0.
- Bryant would take a lead on the second time through the order. The first two batters in the fourth would reach base and Shane Kelly would follow with a three-run homerun to left field to make it 3-2.
- In the fifth, senior Jay Devito drew drew a two-out walk to extend the CCSU at bat. Junior Dan Covino followed with a double deep to centerfield to drive in the game-tying run.
- The Blue Devils escaped a jam in the sixth inning when Bryant had its first two batters reach base. Following a pitching change, the Bulldogs would load the bases with one out, but sophomore Jake Neuman would record his second strikeout of the inning to keep the score tied.
- Central would take the lead in the eighth inning when junior Jack Nolan and freshman Kyle Gordon led off with back-to-back singles. After a pair of hitters were retired, sophomore Hunter Pasqualini singled through the middle to drive in the go-ahead run and make it 4-3.
- Bryant bounced back in the bottom of the eighth to regain the lead. Back-to-back homeruns by Carmine Petosa and Jackson Phinney would make 6-4 as the Bulldogs would put together four straight hits before the Blue Devils could get out of the inning.
NOTES
- Since a four-game slide April 5-12, Central has gone 13-3.
- CCSU lost for just the first time this year when holding a lead in the eighth inning or later.
- Junior Noah Martinez went 3-for-4 at the plate for Central.
- Sophomore Dominic Niman started for CCSU and allowed three runs in 5.0 innings.
- Neuman tossed 2.0 innings and did not allow a hit, while striking out four.
