Baseball Topped by Bryant in Series Opener
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell to Bryant, 7-5, on Friday in the series opener at CCSU Baaseball Field. The Blue Devils took an early three-run lead, but the Bulldogs responded with a five-run fifth inning to take the lead.
Central and Bryant meet again on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central put together the first scoring threat when it loaded the bases on three singles with one out in the second. The Bulldogs got out of the inning unharmed with consecutive strikeouts.
- The Blue Devils would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with three runs. Freshman Aidan Redahan hit a one-out single and moved to third on a double by sophomore Michael Torneiro. Sophomore Joe Rios followed with a double to centerfield to drive in two runs. With two outs, sophomore Hunter Pasqualini poked a single to right field to drive in Rios and make it 3-0.
- Bryant bounced back in the top of the fifth with five runs. Carmine Petosa led off with a solo homerun to right field. After a pair of one-out singles Alex Lane doubled to left to drive in another run. An error would keep the inning going for Bryant and with two outs, John Tuccillo hit a three-run double to make it 5-3.
- Lane hit a RBI-single in the sixth and Tuccillo added a sac fly in the seventh to push the lead to 7-3.
- CCSU had runners on the corners with no outs in the seventh and a sac fly from junior Dan Covino drove in one run.
- Sophomore Elliot Good led off the ninth with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by senior Jay Devito drove him in before the game ended on a fly out to center field.
NOTES
- The game's start was delayed almost 20 minutes by lightning and was played with intermittent rain throughout the game.
- Sophomore Dominic Niman started and went 5.2 innings. He allowed three earned runs on eight hits and struck out four.
- Junior Dylan Benton came on in relief and tossed a season-high 3.1 innings. He allowed an unearned run and allowed just three hits.
- Torneiro went 3-for-4 and Redahan had a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
- Rios went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
