Baseball Faces Bryant in Northeast Conference Tournament Thursday
Central Connecticut will open play at the Northeast Conference Baseball Championship on Thursday, May 26, at 4:00 p.m. against Bryant at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT. The Blue Devils and Bulldogs tied for second in the league standings during the regular season, but the Bulldogs will be the #2 seed and the Blue Devils will be the #3 seed. Head coach Charlie Hickey, the all-time winningest coach at CCSU, has gone 715-585-6 in his career. He has a 609-524-5 record in 23 seasons at Central and he has led CCSU to 25+ wins in 17 seasons. The Blue Devils are playing in the NEC Tournament for the 18th time and have an all-time record of 35-24. CCSU is the two-time defending champion and has won seven NEC titles overall (2002, 2003, 2004, 2010, 2017, 2019. 2021). Central Connecticut is the only school in league history to win three straight tournament championships (2002-04).
Bryant went 27-25 overall and 17-10 in NEC play. LIU (34-18, 18-9 NEC) earned the top seed, while FDU (24-28, 16-11 NEC) rounds out the championship field.
The Blue Devils have gone 5-7 this season against teams in the NEC Tournament. CCSU went 0-3 against LIU, while going 2-4 vs. Bryant and 3-0 against FDU.
The Sharks and Knights play at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday to open the championship.
