Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader from Bryant on Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team swept a Northeast Conference doubleheader on Saturday against Bryant at CCSU Baseball Field. CCSU won game one 7-2 and took the second game, 14-1. The Blue Devils got strong pitching in both games and erupted with a season-best matching 14 runs in the second game.
Central plays at UConn on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- Junior Dan Covino sparked the Blue Devils' offense for the day with a moonshot to right field in the bottom of the first to make it 2-0.
- The Bulldogs got a run back in the top of the second, but CCSU responded with four runs in the third. Junior Noah Martinez hit a no-doubt three-run homerun with one out before sophomore Michael Torneiro hit a sac fly to drive in a run and make it 6-1.
- Bryant got a run in the fifth on a two-out error that brought home a run to cut the CCSU lead to 6-2.
- In the eighth, sophomore Hunter Pasqualini doubled down the left field line and came home on a two-out double to left by Covino to make it 7-2.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central took control early, building an 11-1 lead through four innings. The Blue Devils took advantage of two Bryant errors in the second to score five runs. The only RBIs in the inning came on freshman Kyle Gordon's RBI-double and Covino had an RBI-groundout.
- Bryant's only run of the game came in the third on a solo homerun by Alex Lane. The Blue Devils matched the run in the bottom of the inning on Gordon's second double of the game to make it 6-1.
- In the fourth, Martinez drove in two runs on a double and senior Sam Loda made it consecutive RBI doubles to push the lead to 9-1. Freshman Aidan Redahan singled home a run and Torneiro doubled in a run as the Blue Devils hit four straight hits to make it 11-1.
- Central closed the scoring on a three-run homer in the eighth.

- CCSU head coach Charlie Hickey has a 592-514-5 record in 23 years at the school and is 698-575-6 overall in his career.
- Central's lineup combined for 24 hits, seven of which were extra-bases, in the two games.
- The Blue Devils scored 14 runs to match a season-high, set in the series finale at Wagner last weekend.
- Sophomore Jake Neuman tossed 7.0 innings in the opener. He allowed one earned run on four hits, while striking out six for his first win of the year.
- Sophomore Luke Garofalo tossed 2.0 perfect innings. He struck out five.
- Sophomore Anthony Mozzicato tossed 6.0 innings in game two. He scattered seven hits and had six strikeouts.
- Freshman Vincent Spizzoucco picked up his third save of the year. He threw 3.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits and a walk, while striking out five.
- Loda went 4-for-8 with four runs and four RBIs in the doubleheader. Martinez had three hits with three runs and five RBIs.Covino had three runs and four RBIs.
- Five Blue Devils had two or more hits in the second game, while Pasqualini, Covino and Redahan each had two hits in the first game.
