Spizzoucco Earns Freshman All-America Honors
Central Connecticut freshman Vincent Spizzoucco was named to the 2022 Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American team, powered by Diamond Sports, it was announced Wednesday.
Named Rookie of The Year in the Northeast Conference and a second team All-League pick, he posted a 6-2 record, 3.77 ERA, 3 saves and fanned 61 batters with 21 walks over 57 1/3 innings.
Spizzuocco collected Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year and All-NEC Second Team honors after moving into the CCSU rotation midway through the campaign. The southpaw from Southington, CT, would make 15 appearances, including eight starts and post a 6-2 record with three saves. He sported a 3.77 ERA in 57.1 innings and struck out 61 batters. He earned NEC Rookie of the Week on four occasions and was named Pitcher of the Week on April 19. He ranked third on the circuit in wins, sixth in ERA and sixth in strikeouts.
CCSU had a Freshman All-America honoree for the second straight season after sophomore Jake Neuman was recognized in 2021.
