Wagner Outscores Baseball in Conference Opener
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell to Wagner, 5-1, on Friday at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ. The Seahawks scored a pair of unearned runs to take an early lead, before adding three runs in the seventh to build a cushion the Blue Devils were unable to overcome.
The teams meet again Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Lakewod, NJ.

KEY MOMENTS
- Wagner opened the scoring in the bottom of the third. Sophomore Dominic Niman had retired the Seahawks in order in the first two innings before Dimaggio Cazares hit a one-out single. He then stole second and would try to steal third. The throw was high and into the outfield, allowing him to come home and make it 1-0.
- The Seahawks tacked on a run in the fifth after a single and walk put runners on first and second. Maimu Kobayashi would hit a grounder to shortstop and CCSU would get an out at second, but when trying to turn the double play the throw to first skipped away and allowed Cazares to score and make it 2-0.
- Central cut the deficit in half in the seventh. Freshman Kyle Gordon would reach on a fielder's choice and with two outs, sophomore Elliot Good hit a looping single into the right-center gap that scored Gordon to make it 2-1.
- Wagner padded its lead in the bottom of the seventh after knocking three straight hits to spark the outburst. David Melfi led off with a double and would score on a triple by Cazares with one out to make it 3-1. Quinn Mimnaugh followed with a single to plate another run and make it a three-run game. Dante Faicchio hit a two-out single to drive in another run to make it 5-1.

- Niman tossed 6.0 innings and allowed just three hits, while striking out six. He took the loss after being charged with two runs allowed, neither of which were earned.
- Central managed just five hits. Freshman Aidan Redahan went 2-for-4.
- CCSU had its four-game win streak snapped.
