Baseball Claims Win at Sacred Heart on Friday
The Central Connecticut baseball team won its third straight game with a 9-1 win over Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference action at Bridgeport, CT. The Blue Devils got a homerun from junior Dan Covino and 6.0 solid innings from freshman Vincent Spizzoucco on the mound before breaking the game open with four runs in the ninth inning.
The Blue Devils and Pioneers close out the series on Saturday with a game at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central would threaten to open the scoring in the second inning, putting runners on second and third with one out before coming away empty-handed. In the third, sophomore Elliot Good drew a walk to leadoff and moved to third on a groundout and wild pitch. After two more walks loaded the bases, junior Noah Martinez hit a fly ball to left field to bring home Good and make it 1-0.
- Freshman Vincent Spizzoucco allowed just two hits through the first three innings. The Pioneers managed to get to him in the fourth. Jay Emerson led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice. With two outs, Ryan Donnelly singled to centerfield to drive in Emerson and tie the game.
- CCSU broke the tie iin the fifth. Senior Jay Devito led off with a single and made it to third following an error and wild pitch. Junior Dan Covino followed up with a homerun to make it 3-1.
- Central tacked on insurance runs late. In the eighth, the Blue Devils took advantage of a two-out error to extend the inning. Sophomore Michael Torniero reached on an error before a single by Good moved him to second another from sophomore Hunter Pasqualini drove him in to make it 4-1. In the final frame CCSU would bat around and Covino led off with a double before scoring on a single by Martinez to make it 5-1. Freshman Kyle Gordon pinch ran for Martinez and would move to third on a single by senior Sam Loda before scoring on a wild pitch. A single by Torniero would plate Loda to make it 7-1. Pasqualini drove in two runs on a bases-loaded single to further cushion the lead.
NOTES
- Central claimed its fourth straight win over the Pioneers.
- Spizzoucco made his second start of the season. He went 6.0 innings and allowed just one run on six hits. He struck out four and walked one.
- Neuman picked up his second save of the season, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings. He moved into fourth on the CCSU career list with 10 saves.
- Loda and Covino each had three hits on the afternoon. Covino would score twice and drive in two runs as well.
- Pasqualini had two hits and drove in three runs, while Martinez had two hits and two RBIs.
