Baseball has Four Earn All-New England Honors
Four members of the Central Connecticut baseball team earned Division I All-New England honors it was announced on Wednesday by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association. Junior Noah Martinez and sophomore Luke Garofalo earned a spot on the First Team, while junior Dan Covino and sophomore Anthony Mozzicato were named to the Second Team.
Martinez was named First Team All-Northeast Conference last week. He led the NEC in homeruns (15) and RBIs (62). He ranks sixth nationally driving in 1.38 runs per game and posted a .313 batting average and .620 slugging percentage. His homerun total is the most at Central since Pat Epps hit 18 homeruns in 2010. Martinez batted .417 with a homerun and three RBIs in three games to earn NEC All-Tournament honors.
Garofalo was also a First Team All-NEC pick and helped anchor the back end of the Blue Devils' bullpen. He posted three saves in 43.0 innings of workacross 18 appearances. He went 5-1 with a 1.26 ERA and had 57 strikeouts and limited opposing hitters to a .169 average. The righty tossed 6.0 shutout innings and earned the win in CCSU's win over FDU at the NEC Tournament.
Mozzicato, an All-NEC First Team selection, settled into the starting rotation this season and made 13 starts. He ranked second on the team with 69.1 innings pitched and went 7-4 with a 3.25 ERA. He ranked second in the league in wins, third in ERA and was third in the league, holding opposing hitters to a .251 batting average.
Covino was also a First Team All-NEC pick and started 46 contests while hitting third in the Blue Devils' lineup. He was among the league leaders with a .328 batting average and led the league with 19 doubles. He ranked second with 58 RBIs, while ranking sixth with a .441 on-base percentage and seventh with nine home runs.
