Baseball Falls to LIU as Teams Combine for 23 Runs and 30 Hits
Central Connecticut fell to LIU, 13-10, on Saturday in a Northeast Conference baseball contest at CCSU Baseball Field. The start of the game was delayed 90 minutes due to weather, but the offenses were not hindered as the teams combined for 14 runs in the first two innings.
The Blue Devils and Sharks wrap up the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- LIU opened the game with three straight singles to load the bases. A base on balls played the first run before Colin Adams cleared the bases with a home run to make it 5-0.
- In the bottom of the first, CCSU strung together three straight hits, capped off by a double by junior Dan Covino to drive in two runs. Senior Sam Loda beat out a single and a throwing error on the play allowed Covino to score and make it 5-3.
- The scoring continued in the second, with the Sharks pushing across to runs in the top of the inning to make it 7-3. In the bottom of the inning, Central strung together hits by sophomore Elliot Good, sophomore Hunter Pasqualini and senior Jay Devito to load the bases with no outs. Covino would promptly launch a homerun into right field to tie the game 7-7.
- LIU scored a run on an RBI-groundout in third before tacking on a pair in the fourth on a homerun by Giovanni Ciaccio to make it 10-7.
- In the bottom of the fourth, junior Noah Martinez hit a two-out single and would come around to score on a double by Loda to make it 10-8.
- The Sharks got RBI-singles from RJ Latkowski and Seth Surrett as part of a three-run seventh to add insurance runs and make it 13-8.
- In the ninth, CCSU would try to rally. Martinez walked to lead off and Loda followed with a single. A wild pitch would put runners on the corners. Freshman Aidan Redahan would hit a grounder that allowed Martinez to score and everyone was safe due to an error. Another error on the next at bat loaded the bases for junior Dylan Sanchez who hit a RBI-groundout to make it 13-10 with one out. LIU would bring on their closer for the final two outs of the game to shut the door on the CCSU rally.
NOTES
- Central had 14 hits - its most in an NEC game this season. The top three hitters in the CCSU lineup combined to go 7-for-16 with six runs scored and six RBIs.
- Covino went 3-for-5 with two runs and six RBIs. He hit his fourth homerun of the season and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
- Loda added three hits for his third three-hit outing of the season.
- Devito and Pasqualini each had two hits and two runs scored.
