Felicia Kemp Announced as Women's Basketball Assistant Coach
Head women’s basketball Coach Way Veney announced Felicia Kemp as the newest addition to the Blue Devils staff.
Central Connecticut women's basketball head coach Way Veney announced Felicia Kemp as an assistant women's basketball coach.
"I'm excited to add Felicia to my staff. She is someone who has numerous years of coaching experience," said Veney. "She is outstanding at cultivating relationships and is a true advocate for student-athletes. Her ability to connect with coaches and players will really bring value in recruiting."
A native of Hampton, VA, Kemp comes to Central Connecticut after most recently serving as an assistant coach with Fordham University. Prior to that, Kemp served as an assistant coach with the Howard University women's basketball team from 2004-08. She came to Howard from Morgan State University, where she served as interim head coach during the 2002-03 season.
Kemp started her career as an assistant at her alma mater, Christopher Newport University, in 1995. She played basketball at CNU from 1992-95, and led the Captains to NCAA Tournament appearances in 1993 and 1995, as well as, winning four Dixie Conference regular season championships.
While coaching at Christopher Newport, Kemp helped the team earn four Dixie Conference Regular Season Championships, the 1998 Dixie Conference Tournament Championship, and make three NCAA appearances (1996-98). Kemp played for and later coached with Cathy Parson at CNU, who served as the interim head coach for the WNBA's Washington Mystics where Kemp served as the tryout coach.
Kemp says her passion for coaching comes from the desire to, "Mentor young women into becoming the best version of themselves on and off the court."
After Fordham, Kemp received her Master's in Psychology specializing in Sports Performance at the University of the Rockies in Colorado Springs in 2011. She pursued the degree to help understand the psychology behind healthy program culture and team dynamics.
