Baseball Shuts Out Iona
Cody Brown picks up win with eight shutout innings
Sophomore lefty Cody Brown pitched eight innings without allowing a run and pushed his record to 4-5 on the season in a 3-0 non-conference win over Iona on Friday. Brown allowed eight hits without allowing a run. Central is now 19-19 overall. Iona is 6-34.
The Blue Devils struck first with a two-out run in the first inning. Junior J.P. Sportman tripled and then scored on a double from senior Tyler McIntyre.
A second two-out run, this time in the second inning, made it 2-0. Freshman Connor Fitzsimons singled to center field to score junior Anthony Turgeon who had singled. Central left the bases loaded.
The lead reached 3-0 in the sixth inning on an RBI double from Turgeon. Sophomore Dominic Severino singled to lead off the inning and then scored from second on the play.
Brown picked up his fourth win of the year. He scattered eight hits and struck out seven batters. Junior Josh Ingham picked up his eighth save of the season, pitching a perfect ninth inning. The save is the 19th career for Ingham, extending his school record. He is just one save shy of tying the single season mark.
McIntyre, Fitzsimons and Turgeon each drove in a run in the win. Turgeon, Severino and McIntyre each had a pair of hits.
