Baseball Shuts Out Stony Brook, 4-0
CCSU returns home on Wednesday vs. Fairfield
The Central Connecticut baseball team improved to 18-18 overall on the season with a 4-0 home victory over Stony Brook on Tuesday afternoon. The game is the first of four non-conference home games this week for the Blue Devils. Stony Brook falls to 14-27 overall with the loss.
After a scoreless first five and a half innings, Central struck for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. With one out freshman Jeff Osak walked and went to second on a single from junior J.P. Sportman. Senior Tyler McIntyre walked to load the bases before pinch-hitter Bobby Migliazza, a senior, singled to right center to score a pair of runs. The third run scored on a bunt single from junior Josh Ingham.
The lead reached 4-0 on an RBI single from Sportman in the seventh inning. The hit was the third of the game for the junior center fielder.
Junior righty Nick Boyd picked up his second win of the season for the Blue Devils. He pitched six innings and allowed three hits and a walk while striking out two.
Sophomore lefty Jesse Frawley picked up the save for the Blue Devils, pitching the final three innings without allowing a hit and striking out three. The two CCSU pitchers combined to allow just three hits in the victory.
