Junior Josh Ingham sets CCSU career saves mark in game two
Junior Josh Ingham picked up his 15th career save in the second game of a doubleheader at LIU Brooklyn on Saturday, giving the Blue Devils a 3-2 win and a split of the two games in Brooklyn. Ingham pitched the final two third of an inning to preserve the victory. LIU won the first game 6-2.
With the Saturday split Central is now 12-12 overall and 6-5 in Northeast Conference play.
Sophomore lefty Cody Brown picked up the win in game two, pitching six innings and allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out two. He is now 3-3 on the season. Ingham struck two in the seventh and left the tying and winning runs on base.
Ingham's save was his fourth of the season and the 15th of his career, passing former Blue Devil and current Oakland A's reliever Evan Scribner.
In the second game the Blackbirds took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning, but the Blue Devils bounced back with three runs in the top of the second inning to take the 3-2 lead.
The first run scored on a fielding error and then freshman Connor Fitzsimons and junior Dylan DelaCruz each singled home a run to give Central its first lead in the series.
In the first game the Blackbirds led 6-0 before the Blue Devils were able to put a pair of runs across in the top of the seventh inning. Junior J.P. Sportman singled home two to cut the lead to 6-2, but they were unable to get any closer.
LIU scored twice in the second, and then once each in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take the lead.
Central junior starter Nick Neumann pitched six innings but fell to 2-2 on the season with the loss. He gave up nine hits, six runs (five earned) while walking four and striking out three.
The weekend series will end with a final nine-inning game on Sunday.
