Blue Devils Win Series Finale at Navy
Neumann wins first game since 2011
Junior righthander Nick Neumann picked up his first win since the 2011 season as the Central Connecticut baseball team topped Navy 6-4 on Sunday. The win gives the Blue Devils three of four over Navy on the weekend. They are now 3-1 on the season, and play again next weekend on the road at St. Joseph's and Villanova.
Neumann missed all of the 2012 season with an arm injury, and pitched on Sunday for the first time since the conference tournament in 2011. He went five innings to earn the win. He allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out two Midshipmen to move to 1-0 on the season.
The Blue Devils climbed out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in the second and two more in the third.
In the second junior Dylan DelaCruz singled to lead off the inning and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The second run came on an RBI single from senior Chris Renzoni.
In the third inning sophomore Dominic Severino doubled home senior Tyler McIntyre to make it 3-0. Sophomore Ryan Beal drove in the second run of the inning.
With the score 4-2, Beal hit his first home run in a Central uniform to make it 6-2 in the top of the seventh inning. McIntyre had singled and scored on the two-run shot.
Navy scored a single run in the seventh inning and one in the eighth to make it 6-4.
Sophomore lefty Casey Brown pitched two innings in relief of Neumann. He let up two runs on four hits while striking out one.
Junior Josh Ingham picked up his first save of the season pitching the ninth without allowing a base runner and striking out one. He led the team with seven saves last season.
Beal finished the game with a pair of hits and three RBI. McIntyre had three hits and scored three times. Delacruz and senior Mike Washburn each had two hits. Severino and Renzoni each drove in a run.
The Blue Devils return to action next weekend on the road at St. Joseph's and Villanova.
