Blue Devils One-Hit Rams
Seven Blue Devil pitchers combined on a one-hitter in a 4-0 victory over URI.
The Central Connecticut baseball team earned a 4-0 victory over Rhode Island on Wednesday afternoon as seven Blue Devil pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter. The Blue Devils improve to 11-10 on the season with the victory, while the Rams fall to 12-15.
The Blue Devil offense scored three runs in the third inning and added another run in the fifth. The four run lead was more than enough for the CCSU pitching staff on Wednesday as the Blue Devils picked up their first shutout victory of the season.
In the third inning freshman Connor Fitzsimons singled with one out and went to second on a single from senior Nick Palmisano. A double from senior Bobby Migliazza scored the first run, and the second and third scored when junior Dylan DelaCruz reached on an error. He recorded one RBI on the play.
Migliazza scored the fourth run when he scored on a double play ball in the fifth inning, making it 4-0.
Sophomore Dominic Severino started the game and pitched the first two innings without allowing a hit for the Blue Devils. He struck out two. Freshman Rob Anderson pitched the next two innings, also without allowing a hit.
Senior Nick Boyd pitched the fifth inning, allowing the game's first hit for the Rams. Freshman lefty Michael Pastore pitched the sixth inning without allowing a run or a hit. Junior Tom Coughlin pitched a scoreless seventh. Sophomore Brendon Karinchak pitched a scoreless eighth inning and junior Josh Ingham closed out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth.
The Blue Devil pitching staff faced just 33 batters in the game or six over the minimum.
Migliazza and DelaCruz both finished with two hits and an RBI. Fitzsimons, Palmisano and junior Anthony Turgeon also had hits for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils return to action this weekend at LIU Brooklyn with a four-game series beginning on Friday afternoon.
