Sportman Earns NECBL MVP Honor
Helped lead his team to the NECBL Championship this summer
Central Connecticut's J.P. Sportman was named the Rick Ligi Most Valuable Player in the New England Collegiate Baseball League this past summer, the announcement was made by the league commissioner on Thursday. Sportman helped lead the Keene Swap Bats to the NECBL title this summer.
Sportman, who was also a First Team All-League selection in the outfield, batted .340 with 13 doubles and 31 runs batted in on the season. All of those numbers ranked in the top-four in the NECBL. He was named the Player of the Week once during the summer season.
The Swamp Bats went 6-3 in the playoff round and won the NECBL title.
J.P. Sportman NECBL Statistics
This past year Sportman was an All-Conference selection for the Blue Devils for the third straight season. He was a First Team selection as a sophomore and a Second Team selection in his first season.
Sportman finished second on the team with a .327 average and led the team and NEC in doubles with 18. He drove in 33 runs and also led the league in sacrifice flies with nine on the year. Sportman played and started all 53 games in the outfield for the Blue Devils. He was eighth in the conference with 66 hits.
