Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader
Blue Devils and Knights will finish series on Sunday
The Central Connecticut baseball team swept a doubleheader at home with Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, winning game one 9-3 and game two 6-3. With the wins the Blue Devils are 8-6 overall and 3-0 in Northeast Conference play. FDU is now 3-12 and 0-3 in the league.
In game one the Knights struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning off of Central junior starter Nick Neumann. FDU's first four batters in the game singled, leading to the two runs.
Central scored four two-outs runs in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead. Junior Anthony Turgeon walked and then scored on a double from classmate Josh Ingham. Ingham scored on a single from freshman Connor Fitzsimons. Junior Dylan DelaCruz hit his first home run of the season to make it 4-2.
The lead reached 5-2 on a sacrifice fly from junior J.P. Sportman in the bottom of the fourth inning.
FDU got a run back in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single from Riley Moonan. Ingham's second RBI made it 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Blue Devils.
Central senior Bobby Migliazza singled home the seventh run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, and then an RBI single from Turgeon made it 8-3. Fitzsimons got his third hit and second RBI to make it 9-3.
Neumann settled down after the first four batters. He retired 12 of the next 13 FDU hitters before the Knights scored again in the fifth inning. He went five innings allowing seven hits and striking two for his second victory of the season. Sophomore lefty Brendyn Karinchak picked up his second save pitching the final two innings.

In the second game Central scored a single unearned run in the bottom of the first to lead 1-0. With two outs Sportman singled and went to second on a throwing error. He scored on a single from senior Tyler McIntyre.
FDU's Eric Anderson gave the Knights a 2-1 lead with a two-out two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning.
McIntyre's second RBI, this time on a double down the right field line, tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth. He scored on an RBI single from sophomore Dominic Severino and Severino scored on an RBI single from Turgeon, making it 4-2. The sixth straight hit of the inning, an RBI single to center field from Ingham, pushed it to 5-2. A fifth run scored on a double play and CCSU led 6-2 after four innings.
FDU got one back on their second home run of the game in the fifth, cutting the lead to 6-3.
Sophomore Cody Brown picked up his second win of the season, allowing three runs in 6.1 innings of work. He is now 2-2. Ingham picked up his third save of the season recording the final two outs, including a strikeout.
The Blue Devils and Knights will finish the weekend series on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m. on the CCSU Baseball Field.
