Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader
Blue Devils rebound to win game two 3-0
Junior righty Nick Neumann pitched a complete game shutout in a 3-0 game two victory over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday to help Central Connecticut earn a split of a doubleheader. Mount won the first game 3-2 after scoring two seventh inning runs.
The Blue Devils are now 27-25 overall and 15-16 in Northeast Conference play. Mount is 11-36 and 6-25 in the league.
The game one loss eliminates the Blue Devils from a potential trip to the NEC Tournament next weekend.
In game one the Mount took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning off of Blue Devil starter Jack Greenhouse.
The Blue Devils took their first lead of the game in the fourth inning. With a man on first senior Tyler McIntyre hit his fifth home run of the season to left center field to give Central a 2-1 lead.
The game was quiet until the Mount scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning off of reliever Josh Ingham.
Central had only three hits in the game, including the two-run home run from McIntyre.
In game two, Central took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a pair of unearned runs. With two outs a throwing error by the Mount allowed two runners to score on the play. A third unearned run, following a second Mount throwing error, gave the Blue Devils a 3-0 after four innings.
Neumann pitched the complete game to earn his fifth victory of the season, he is now 5-5. He allowed five hits and struck out three in his final start of the season.
The Blue Devils and the Mount will finish the weekend series with a single nine-inning game on Sunday afternoon.
