High Point Tops Baseball on Saturday
Series finale will be on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped its third straight game, falling 10-2 on the road at High Point University on Saturday. With the loss the Blue Devils are now 4-6 overall on the season. The two teams will complete the weekend series on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.
Junior Dylan DelaCruz had four hits for the Blue Devils in the loss, he also scored both Blue Devil runs in the game. He was 4-of-5 with a double. Senior Tyler McIntyre and junior J.P. Sportman each drove in a run in the game.
Junior Nick Neumann picked up his first loss of the season on the mound, he is now 1-1 on the year. He went five innings and allowed nine hits, six runs (just three earned) while striking out a pair of High Point batters.
Central's two runs came in the third and fifth innings. In the third McIntyre drove in DelaCruz with a deep double to right field. In the fifth it was Sportman driving in DelaCruz with a ground out.
Delacruz was 4-of-5 to lead the offense. Central had nine hits in the game. High Point finished with 14, but five Central errors led to three unearned runs, all in the first five innings.
McIntyre finished the game with three hits, including a double, and an RBI. He leads the Blue Devils with 11 RBI through 10 games this season.
High Point scored runs in the first three innings to lead 5-1. After the Blue Devils cut it to 5-2 in the fifth, High Point scored one in the fifth, and four more in the seventh inning for the 10-2 win. They also won Friday's game, 6-2, between the two teams.
The Blue Devils and Panthers will complete the weekend series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Central, who is now 4-6 overall on the season, will return home next week for five games on the CCSU Baseball Field. They are scheduled to host Hartford on Tuesday, and then begin Northeast Conference play on Friday with a weekend series vs. Fairleigh Dickinson at home.
