Wagner Tops CCSU in Series Finale
Blue Devils now 10-10 in league play this season
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped the series finale at Wagner on Sunday, falling 8-1, and is now 17-18 overall and 10-10 in Northeast Conference play. The Blue Devils are scheduled to play four non-conference home games next week, beginning with Stony Brook on April 23.
The Blue Devils managed just one hit in the Sunday loss, a one-out single from junior Dylan DelaCruz in the ninth inning. Wagner's Paul Mammino struck out five and walked just one to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Central's Casey Brown falls to 1-4 on the season, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing six runs on six hits. Just two of the runs were earned as the Blue Devils committed four errors in the game.
The Blue Devils scored their only run in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout from junior Anthony Turgeon. Senior Tyler McIntyre had walked to lead off the inning and he scored on the play.
Wagner tied the game in the bottom of the inning, and then took the lead for good with a run in the third. They added four in the sixth and two in the seventh, leading to the 8-1 score.
The Blue Devils are back in action at home on Tuesday, hosting Stony Brook. They will also play home games this weekend vs. Fairfield and Iona. Their next conference games will come on Friday, May 3 when first-place Bryant visits New Britain.
