Baseball Drops Home Contest to Fairfield
Blue Devils will host Iona on Friday and Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a non-conference game at home to Fairfield on Wednesday by the score of 12-4. With the loss the Blue Devils are now 18-19 overall on the season. Fairfield is 11-23. The Blue Devils will play at home on Friday and Saturday in non-league action hosting Iona.
Fairfield took the early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but the Blue Devils responded with two in the bottom of the inning to tie the score 2-2. Central opened the bottom half of the frame with three straight doubles, including RBI doubles from freshman Jeff Osak and junior J.P. Sportman.
The Stags scored four more in the second inning to take a 6-2 lead. Two more runs in the fourth inning pushed the lead to 8-2. A two-run home run in the fifth made it 10-2.
Central got two runs back in the fifth, making it 10-4. Sportman's second RBI, a sacrifice fly to left field, scored the first run. An RBI groundout from junior Josh Ingham plated the second.
Fairfield picked up an unearned run in the seventh to make it 11-4. Another run in the eighth made it 12-4.
Fairfield had 12 hits to score their 12 runs. The Blue Devils had seven hits and made three errors in the field in the game. Sportman drove in two runs in the loss. Junior Dylan DelaCruz had a double and a triple for the home team.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday afternoon hosting Iona at 3 p.m. in a non-conference game. The two teams will also play a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m. Fans can listen live to both games by clicking HERE.
