DelaCruz, Sportman and Boyd Named to Collegiate All-Star Teams
Three Blue Devils honored in Summer Baseball.
Central Connecticut's Dylan DelaCruz and J.P. Sportman have been selected for the roster in the upcoming New England Collegiate Baseball League's 19th annual All-Star Game on Sunday, July 22, at Recreation Field in Montpelier, VT. Both Blue Devils have enjoyed steller summer seasons with the Keene Swamp Bats.
Sportman currently leads the Swamp Bats in RBI with 34, is second in batting average at .380 and third in home runs with six. He has played in 28 games and racked up 41 hits and 20 runs scored in 108 at bats. Sportman entered the summer coming off of an impressive sophomore season with the Blue Devils in which he earned the highest batting average on the team, .353, posted 67 hits, 14 doubles, seven home runs and 33 RBI in 190 at bats.
DelaCruz goes into the All-Star game listed third on the team in RBI with 24. He has played in 29 games and posted a .300 batting average and four home runs in 120 at bats. He comes off of his sophomore Blue Devil season in which he played in 50 games and finished first on the team in runs with 39 and in doubles with 19. He also earned a .326 batting average and racked up 62 hits and 25 RBI in 190 at bats.
Another Blue Devil standout this summer has been pitcher Nick Boyd who leads the New York Collegiate Baseball League in wins (6-1) and was appointed to the Western Division All-Stars roster. He played in the NYCBL All-Star Game on July 11 and currently leads the Hornell Dodgers in games started (seven) and in strikeouts (32) in a team-high 46.1 innings pitched. Boyd comes off of his sophomore season at Central playing in 13 games, pitching 20.1 innings and posting a 0.89 earned run average.
