Central returns to action on Friday afternoon at Wagner. They begin a four-game weekend series on Staten Island beginning at 3 p.m.
The Minutemen struck first with four runs in the first inning off of Blue Devil junior starter Tom Coughlin. Five hits and a pair of walks helped the home team to the early lead.
Coughlin would go four innings and allow 10 hits, four earned runs and a pair of strikeouts, but would not factor in the decision because the Blue Devils rallied to tie the game in the fourth and fifth innings.
In the fourth inning sophomore Dominic Severino singled with one out and went to second on a fielder's choice. He would score on a fielding error by the Minutemen to make it 4-1.
Three more runs scored in the fifth inning, as the Blue Devils tied the score, 4-4. All three runs scored with two outs. McIntyre hit his fourth home run of the season to make it 4-2 and start the rally. Severino reached on an error, and then went to second on a balk. Senior Mike Washburn walked and both scored on a single and an error from junior Josh Ingham.
UMass got a run back in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-4. Severino walked with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth to tie the game.
The Minutemen took the lead again on the bottom of the seventh. A sacrifice fly scored the go-ahead run, and UMass led 6-5. They added three more runs in the eighth inning for the 9-5 lead.
The Blue Devil were led by McIntyre who hit his home run. Jeff Osak, Severino and Ingham all had a pair of hits.
