Baseball Sweeps DH at Wagner
Josh Ingham drives in three and saves game two
The Central Connecticut baseball team swept a Saturday doubleheader on the road at Wagner, winning the first game 13-1 and the second 4-3. With the two wins the Blue Devils are now 17-17 overall and 10-9 in Northeast Conference play. The two teams will complete the weekend series with a single game on Sunday.
In game one junior Nick Neumann pitched the complete game to earn his third victory of the season. In game two junior Josh Ingham drove in a pair of runs and then pitched the final two innings to earn his seventh save of the season.
In that first game junior Dylan DelaCruz led the offense with three RBI in the game, and teammates Tyler McIntyre and Anthony Turgeon each drove in two.
Central struck first with three unearned runs in the fifth inning. A two-RBI single from DelaCruz gave the Blue Devils the lead.
They opened in up in the seventh inning, scoring 10 runs on eight hits. The 10 runs are the most in a single inning this season for the Blue Devils. McIntyre and Turgeon each drove in two runs in the inning. DelaCruz, senior Nick Palmisano, senior Chris Renzoni, Ingham, freshman Jeff Osak and senior Bobby Migliazza also drove in runs in the inning.
Neumann pitched seven innings allowing one run on six hits to move to 3-3 on the season. He struck out three and walked three in the game.
The Blue Devils struck first in game two, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. A two-RBI double from Renzoni and an RBI single from Ingham scored the runs.
Wagner answered with two in the bottom of the inning. Ingham's second RBI of the game, and third of the day, pushed the lead to 4-2 in the third inning. Wagner answered again in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-3.
Sophomore Dominic Severino pitched 4.2 innings while allowing six hits and three earned runs. He struck out one. The win is his third, becoming the fifth Blue Devil pitcher with three wins on the season. Ingham came on in the sixth inning and pitched the final two innings to earn his seventh save of the season. He struck out two.
The Blue Devils and Seahawks will finish the weekend series on Sunday with a single nine-inning game.
