Baseball Tops Albany, 10-1
Sophomores Jesse Frawley and Brendyn Karinchak combined to limit the Great Danes to a single run.
The Central Connecticut baseball team earned a 10-1 non-conference road victory over Albany on Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Devils (21-19) scored two in the first and four more in the second to open a 6-0 lead before the Great Danes (20-17-1) batted in the bottom of the second.
Sophomore Jesse Frawley earned his first victory of the season on the mound. Frawley went 6.1 innings and allowed just one run, while scattering nine hits. He struck out four and walked just one.
Sophomore Brendyn Karinchak pitched the final 2.2 innings of the game without allowing a hit.
The four-five-six batters in the CCSU lineup, senior Tyler McIntyre, senior Mike Washburn and junior Josh Ingham, combined to drive in seven of the Blue Devils' 10 runs.
In the first, Washburn singled in junior Dylan Delacruz and Ingham doubled home McIntyre to give CCSU a 2-0 lead.
McIntyre broke the game open in the top of the second with a bases clearing three-run double. Washburn followed with his second RBI single of the game and CCSU took a 6-0 lead after two innings.
Albany was able to plate a run in the bottom of the second that briefly interrupted the Blue Devil momentum.
Central added its seventh run on an RBI single by Delacruz in the sixth. Sophomore Ryan Beal singled up the middle to score a run in the eighth and Ingham recorded a base hit to center in the top of the ninth to plate CCSU's final run.
Beal finished the game three-for-four at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Delacruz, Washburn and Ingham all had a pair of hits.
Senior Nick Palmisano scored a pair of runs in the game and was one-for-one with a pair of walks.
The Blue Devils host Bryant this weekend in a key Northeast Conference series. The Bulldogs will visit New Britain for a single game on Friday, a Saturday doubleheader and a single game on Sunday.
