Baseball Sweeps Weekend Series
Central scheduled to play Northeastern at home on Monday
The Central Connecticut baseball team completed the weekend Northeast Conference sweep over Fairleigh Dickinson with a 5-2 win at home on Sunday afternoon. The win is the fifth straight for the Blue Devils. They are now 9-6 overall and 4-0 in NEC play. FDU is 3-13 overall and 0-4 in the league.
The Knights got on the board first with a single run in the top of the first inning off of Blue Devil starter Jack Greenhouse.
The Blue Devils answered in the bottom of the inning. Junior Dylan DelaCruz led off the inning with a triple to deep right center and then scored on an RBI single from senior Nick Palmisano. With two outs senior Bobby Migliazza doubled down the left field line to score the second run of the inning. Two more runs scored on a wild pitch, both on the same pitch, to give Central the 4-1 lead.
The Central lead reached 5-1 with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With DelaCruz on second, Palmisano hit what appeared to be a single to third, but after an errant throw, Palmisano was called out for never having touched first base. The throwing error, however, allowed DelaCruz to score from second with the fifth run.
Greenhouse improved to 3-1 on the season with the victory. He pitched seven innings allowing just the first inning run while giving up seven hits and striking out four FDU batters. The win was the 12th of his career.
Junior Tom Coughlin pitched 1.1 innings and struck out three, and sophomore Brendyn Karinchak recorded the final two outs to pick up his third save of the season and second of the weekend.
DelaCruz had three hits and scored twice. Palmisano added three hits and an RBI and Migliazza had two hits and an RBI in the victory.
