Swimming And Diving Opens NEC Championship
Blue Devils 800 free relay placed second Tuesday ninght
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team opened the defense of its Northeast Conference Championship Tuesday evening at the Spire Center in Geneva, OH. The Blue Devils came from behind to take silver in the 800 free relay, the opening swim of the championship.
Rookie Katrine O'Leary opened the swim with a split of 1:54.97. Gabby Spaciano followed with a swim of 1:52.56, pulling the Blue Devils into third place at the midway point.
Megan Dunningan split 1:50.07, the third fastest of the night for any swimmer, to keep
CCSU within striking distance of the silver medal. Shannon Welcome anchored the relay with a swim of 1:50.68. She moved the Blue Devils into second place with 75 yards to go and cruised into the silver medal.
The Blue Devils earned 56 points with the second-place finish, and trail Wagner, the 800 free relay winner, by eight points in the team standings.
The 2024 NEC Championship continues with preliminaries beginning at 10:00 am Wednesday. The meet will be live-streamed free on NEC Front Row.
