
Ten Top-Five Finishes on Second Day Of Gompei Invite
Wroblewski wins the 400 IM as the Blue Devils have four individual, and two relay, medal finishes
A win in the 400 individual medley and nine other top-five finishes highlighted the Central Connecticut State swimming and diving effort on day two of the Gompei Invitational. The three-day event is hosted by WPI in Worcester, MA.
Four Blue Devils took home medals in individual events, while both relays also placed in the top-three.
The third and final day of the Gompei Invitational begins at 8:30 am Sunday morning with swimming prelims. Diving will commence at noon and finals at 5:00 pm.
RELAYS
- The Blue Devils relay of Katrine O'Leary, Gabby Spaciano, Kelly Stotler and Shannon Welcome swam to a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay
- Kelly Stotler, Cassidy Stotler, Welcome and Spaciano combined for bronze in the 400 medley relay, swimming 3:58.24
- Megan Dunnigan, Cassidy Stotler, Lauryn Cowing and Maggie Rutledge combined for 15th place after a swim of 1:41.98 in the sprint free relay
- Hannah Kretkowski, Jillena Plowucha, Gabi Wroblewski and Kyle Behrle finished 30th in the 200 free relay, with a swim of 1:51.88
- Sophie Milhomens, Grace Young, Cowing and Rutledge combined for a 4:06.59 swim in the medley relay, good for 12th place
- The squad of Nathalie Pena, Abby Bacon, Plowucha and Megan Dunnigan touched 16th after a 4:09.30 swim
Diving
- Jewelle Maziarz captured silver in the 1-meter diving, putting up 421.90 points
- Kaitlyn Carroll finished fourth on the low board, totaling 377.85 points
400 IM
- Wroblewski took home the gold medal after a swim of 4:34.20 that saw her take control on the backstroke leg and never look back
- Sophie Milhomens finished seventh with a swim of 4:38.25 and Morgan O'Hara placed 10th posting a swim of 4:45.21
- Behrle gave the Blue Devils a 17th place finish posting a time of 4:52.21 in the B-final, five seconds faster then in the morning and one spot in front of Abby Bacon, who swam 4:53.85, 2.5 seconds faster than prelims
- Marley Milne won the C-Final, clocking a 4:57.23, dropping three seconds from prelims
100 Backstroke
- O'Leary earned fifth-place in the event, with a finals effort of 58.11
- Dunnigan dropped time in the evening session, placing 14th after a 1:00.12 swim, while Nathalie Pena earned 19th with a swim of 1:01.59 Saturday night
50 Butterfly
- Cowing was a quarter second faster in the night heat, earning 16th place with a time of 27.57
- Kretkowski won the C-Final with a 27.58, while Plowucha finished 26th with a 28.19 – both lowering their times from the morning heats
200 Freestyle
- Welcome picked up silver with a 1:54.10 effort, dropping slashing two seconds from her prelim swim
- Spaciano captured the consolation final, clocking 1:55.58, 1.5 seconds quicker than in the morning prelims
- Kelly Stotler (1:57.77) and Abbey Keene (2:00.16) went for 17th and 18th respectively
- Rutledge won the C-Final, shaving nearly three seconds off of her early swim, and finishing at 1:58.54, and Wynter Berube placed 40th Saturday night with a 2:05.08
50 Backstroke
- O'Leary took silver with a swim of 26.88, right in front of Kelly Stotler (27.56) who took bronze
- Dunnigan also swam in the A-Final, finishing 10th at 28.84
- Pena finished 12th with a 28.75 effort in the B-Final
100 Breaststroke
- Cassidy Stotler went 1:06.90 Saturday night to finish in fifth-place
- Bacon earned 12th place, lowering her prelim swim 1.4 seconds to finish with a swim of 1:09.76
- Grace Young finished in 23rd place, with a 1:11.00 effort in the C-Final, dropping 1.33 seconds from her morning effort
