
Swimming Earns Six Wins At Fairfield Invitational
Blue Devils placed second in the two-team event
It was the Central Connecticut State swimmers turn on day two of the Fairfield Invitational. The Blue Devils finished second in the team standings with 586 points 45 points shy of the host Stags. Southern Connecticut placed third with 267 points, and Sacred Heart was fourth with 63 points.
800 Freestyle
- Abbey Keane opened the meet with a win in the 800-meter freestyle, pulling away in the middle 400 on her way to a time of 9:23.41
- Maggie Rutledge placed fourth, swimming 9:33.74, .19 seconds out of third place
200 Freestyle
- Shannon Welcome touched at 2:11.87 to earn the win by .07 seconds in front of her teammate
- Gabby Spaciano was the second place finisher, at 2:11.94
100 Backstroke
- Katrine O'Leary touched in second place for the Blue Devils, with a swim of 1:06.03
- Megan Dunnigan placed fourth in the race, with a time of 1:08.94
100 Breaststroke
- Cassidy Stotler swam 1:15.29 to take silver
- Aby Bacon placed fifth with a 1:19.60
200 Butterfly
- Gabi Wroblewski earned second in the 200 fly, touching at 2:29.52, after posting the fastest second 100 split in the event
- Sophie Milhomens placed fourth with a 2:32.97 effort
50 Freestyle
- O'Leary picked up her second runner-up finish with a swim of 27.84
- Kelly Stotler placed fourth with a 27.89 effort
100 Freestyle
- The Blue Devils took the top two spots in the 100 freestyle
- Spaciano won the race at 1:01.02, .02 seconds in front of Kelly Stotler
200 Backstroke
- Milhomens led a 3-4-5-7 Blue Devil effort with a time of 2:26.22
- Dunnigan touched at 2:28.31 and Nathalie Pena at 2:29.31
200 Breaststroke
- Cassidy Stotler won the race with a 2:42.93
400 Freestyle
- Keane took home her second win of the day with a 4:38.43 effort, coming from behind at the midway point to pull to win by more than three seconds
- Welcome touched at 4:42.02 to place third and Rutledge was fourth at 4:43.83
100 Butterfly
- Cassidy Stotler put a 1:06.89 on the clock, good for second place
- Dunnigan placed third, with a 1:08.26 effort
200 IM
- Wroblewski touched second at 2:29.52
- Milhomens was fourth for CCSU at 2:32.97
RELAYS
- The Blue Devils took third and fourth in the 200 medley relay
- The A 400 free relay touched at 4:01.95, good for second place
