
Swimming & Diving Earns Nine Wins On First Day Of Dual With SHU
Senior Day meet saw CCSU build a 137-49 advantage in two-day dual with NEC opponent
The Central Connecticut State University swimming and diving team finished the first day of a two-day dual with Northeast Conference foe Sacred Heart with a 137-49 advantage. The two squads will finish the dual on Saturday, when SHU hosts the Blue Devils at McCann Natatorium at 12:30 pm.
RELAYS
- Katrine O'Leary, Gabby Spaciano, Lauryn Cowing and Kelly Stotler led start-to-finish to open the meet a win in the200 free relay, finishing 3.12 seconds in front of the runner-up
- Sophie Milhomens, Cassidy Stotler, Megan Dunnigan and Shannon Welcome won the 400 medley relay, more than five seconds clear of the runner-up, with a time of 3:57.96
FREESTYLE EVENTS
- The Blue Devils swept the first individual event, the 200 freestyle, posting the top four times on the night, with Shannon Welcome winning at 1:55.89, followed by
- Abbey Keane touched second in the 200 free at 1:57.99, with Maggie Rutledge third at 1:59.43, while Taylor Demarest had the fourth fastest swim of the night at 2:00.11
- O'Leary touched out Kelly Stotler for top honors in the 50-freestyle, touching at 24.84, .02 seconds in front of her teammate
- Cowing picked up fourth place with a swim of 25.46
- CCSU took the top three spots in the 1,000 free, led by a 10:35.57 first place finish from Abbey Keane
- Rutledge placed second with a 10:41.72 effort, while Taylor Demarest finished third at 10:51.05
STROKES
- CCSU took the top three spots in the 100 backstroke, with O'Leary taking the top spot at 58.55
- Megan Dunnigan touched second for the Blue Devils at 59.83, with Nathalie Pena third at 1:01.08
- Cassidy Stotler earned the win in the 100 breaststroke, with a 2.31 seconds win, finishing at 1:05.09
- Grace Young swam to a third-place finish at 1:08.82, followed by Abby Bacon at 1:08.90 in the breaststroke
- The Blue Devils took the top two spots in the 200 butterfly, paced by the winning time of 2:08.69 from Sophie Milhomens
- Gabi Wroblewski finished in the second spot with a 2:10.84 and Kyla Behrle placed fourth with a swim of 2:13.24
- Cassidy Stotler took the top spot in the 200 IM, swimming to a 2:08.71 effort
- Wroblewski finished second at 2:13.61 and Morgan O'Hara finished fourth at 2:17.16
DIVING
- Zoe Baker was the Blue Devils top performer on the 3-meter board, wracking up 233.33 points to place third
- Jewelle Maziarz was close behind at 231.23 for fourth place and Kaitlyn Carroll snagged fifth with a 230.70 point performance
