
Maziarz Named NEC Diver Of The Week After Zone Qualifying Effort
Sophomore becomes first Blue Devil to make the NCAA Zone cut since 2018.
After winning two boards in the Central Connecticut University swimming and diving teams dual meet at URI, sophomore Jewelle Maziarz has been named the Northeast Conference Diver of the Meet.
A native of Newmarket, NH, Maziarz became the first Blue Devil diver since 2018 to qualify for the NCAA Zones. She scored 282.45 points in winning the 1-meter event and punching her ticket to zones. The effort was .72 points shy of the school record on the low board. Maziarz also won the 3-meter board in the dual at URI, scoring 257.10 points.
AnneMarie Durham was the last Blue Devil to qualify for NCAA Zones, finishing 30th on the 1-meter board in 2018. The NCAA Diving Zone A meet will be held at Princeton University March 11-13.
Sophie Milhomens and Shannon Welcome joined Maziarz as NEC Prime Performers for their efforts on Saturday. Milhomens won a pair of events, capturing the 100-backstroke (58.13) and 200-backstroke (2:03.94) Welcome won the 200-freestyle, with a swim 1:53.63, and was third in the 200-butterfly (2:11.93).
The Blue Devils close out the dual meet portion of the schedule on FRiuday, February 2nd with a competition at UConn. That meet begins at 5:00 pm.
