
Six Earn CSCAA National Open Water Qualifying Standard
CCSU swimming opened the season at the Block Cancer Open Water Festival on Sunday
The Central Connecticut swim team opened the 2023-24 season at the Block Cancer Open Water Swim at Lake Terramuggus in Marlborough, CT.
5K Results | 2.5K Results | 1.25K Results
The event, with proceeds supporting Olympian Elizabeth Beisel's Block Cancer Fund, consisted of races of 1.25 KM, 2.5 KM and 5.0 KM. The 5K race served as a qualifier for the 2023 CSCAA Open Water National Championship, for which six Blue Devils earned qualifying times, swimming sub 1:09:00
5K RACE
- Abbey Keane was the Blue Devils top finisher, earning third place in the event, breaking the hour mark and crossing with a time of 59:51
- CCSU rookie Maggie Rutledge placed 10th in the women's race, 17th overall, with a swim of 1:03:34, in her Blue Devil debut
- Kyla Berhle was the third Blue Devil across the line, with a time of 1:06:16, with Shannon Welcome two places back in 29th overall, with a time of 1:07:45
- Marley Milne and Nathalie Pena crossed 33rd and 34th respectively overall, in time s of 1:08.33 and 1:08.41 to earn the CSCAA qualifying standard
- Gabi Wroblewski (1:09.12) and Taylor Demarest (1:09:23)
2.5K RACE
- Wynter Berube was the lone Blue Devil in the 2.5K, swimming to a third-place finish in the women's race, eighth overall, with a time of 32:40
1.25K RACE
- Rookie Sophia Pincince was the top women's finisher in the 1.25, placing third overall, with a swim of 15:44 in her Blue Devils debut
- Morgan O'Hara was eighth overall, third in the women's race, with a swim of 16:21
- Abby Bacon crossed 17th for CCSU, at 17:41
