Saunders Picks Up NEC Honor
Ronea Saunders was awarded NEC Field Athlete of the Week for clearing 1.75m in the high jump this week.
Ronea Saunders, 2012 NEC Most Outstanding Rookie, picked up the 2013 season right where she left off, earning NEC Field Athlete of the Week honors for her performance in the high jump at the University of Albany Great Dane Classic on Friday in New York, NY.
Saunders cleared 1.75 meters in the high jump this week, tying her collegiate personal best as well as the meet record she set as a freshman at the 2012 NEC Outdoor Championships. Her mark is also the current CCSU record.
Her performance this week stands two centimeters better than the 1.73 mark that landed her gold at the Army Crowell Open on January 5. Also, the 1.75m mark ranks her tied for second in the NEC. The current NEC indoor leader has registered 1.78 meters.
Saunders' performance surpassed the IC4A qualifying mark and also made the Wallingford, CT native one of 42 NCAA Division I high jumpers to have cleared 1.75 meters this season.
Saunders and the rest of the Blue Devils will return to action this Friday, January 25, at the Boston University Terrier Invitational in Boston, MA.
