Women's Track & Field Continues Penn Relays
The Blue Devils continued competition in Philadelphia for day two of the Penn Relays on Friday.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team traveled to Philadelphia, PA to compete in the Penn Relays on Thursday. Juniors Elizabeth Eberhardt and Krisztina Dearborn set new CCSU records in day one in the 3,000m steeplechase and the 5,000m run, respectively, for their second record-breaking performances of the 2013 outdoor season.
On Friday, the Blue Devils continued the competition when senior Rachel Dombroski, freshman Alyssa Gonzalez and juniors Shelby Tuttle and Cassey Griffith combined their efforts to finish in 1:42.79 in the 4x200m relay.
Eberhardt earned a bronze medal on day one among 21 tough competitors in the steeplechase. She crossed the finish line in 10:37.64, surpassing 2011 NEC Individual Champion Katharine Bossardet's time of 11:00.10.
Dearborn ran a 17:04.56 in the event, shattering the 17:23.67 record set in 2000 by Heather Gardiner. Her performance was good enough for 20th place overall.
The Blue Devils also competed in the 4x400 meter relay, crossing the finish line in the 3:55.81. The team, consisting of Tuttle, Dombroski, junior Ronea Saunders and sophomore Chantelle Deer, placed 50th out of almost 80 teams.
The Blue Devils will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 27, for day three of the Penn Relays.
