Women's Track Takes 13th of 21 Friday
Dearborn breaks CCSU record in the 3,000 meter run.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team placed 13th in a field of 21 on Friday at the Great Dane Classic in New York, NY. Junior Krisztina Dearborn broke the CCSU record in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:08.33 - surpassing the previous record of 10:12.24 set by Heather Gardiner in 2000.
Sophomore Ronea Saunders earned gold for the Blue Devils in the high jump, clearing 1.75 meters, tying her collegiate career record and qualifying for IC4A competition. Saunders also ran the first leg of the 4x400 relay. The team placed seventh with a time of 4:02.63 and was made up of Saunders, classmate Chantelle Dear, senior Rachel Dombrowski and junior Shelby Tuttle.
Another top-10 finish for the Blue Devils came from junior Elizabeth Eberhardt, who crossed the finish line in the one mile run in 5:10.11 for seventh place. Eberhardt was followed by sophomore Shannon McBride who completed the race in 16th with a time of 5:23.97, a new collegiate career best.
The University of Connecticut placed first at the Great Dane Classic, earning 110.5 team points. The Huskies were followed by Albany (77.5) and Villanova (75). Maryland-Eastern Shore (62) and Rutgers (50.5) rounded out the top five.
