Women's Track 4th After NEC's Day One
Sophomore Ronea Saunders placed second in the high jump, clearing a season-best height of 1.74m.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team completed day one of the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in fourth place earning 25 team points. Sophomore Ronea Saunders led the Blue Devils with a silver medal in the high jump event, clearing a season-best height of 1.74 meters and qualifying for ECAC competition.
Saunders earned eight points for her performance and was followed by senior Ahj Meeks who cleared 1.56m for a new personal record and seventh place. Meeks added two team points.
Junior Krisztina Dearborn placed third in the 10,000 meter run for six points and qualified for ECAC competition with her time of 36:41.71.
Freshman Chelse Terry performed well in the discus throw, registering a distance of 41.33 meters for a new personal record and five team points.
Also scoring for the Blue Devils was the 4x800 meter relay team consisting of junior Elizabeth Eberhardt, freshman Ally Gates and sophomores Taylor LePage and Shannon McBride. The quartette crossed the finish line in 9:33.32 for fifth place and four points.
Junior Shelby Tuttle qualified for competition in tomorrow's finals in both the 100m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. She placed third in her heat, fifth overall, in the 100m hurdles with her time of 14.77. She was third in her heat in the 400m hurdles with her time of 1:03.97 and was followed by freshman Jenean McCalla who finished 15th. McCalla earned a new collegiate personal-best time of 1:07.82.
Central also performed well in the 200 meter hurdles with Cassey Griffith finishing in 10th, registering a time of 25.65. She was followed by freshman Alyssa Gonzalez and senior Rachel Dombroski who crossed the finish line in 26.38 and 26.65, respectively.
After day one of the NEC Championships and seven events scored, Monmouth is seated in first with 87 points. Robert Morris is in second with 45 and is followed by Mount. St. Mary's (31). LIU Brooklyn is just behind Central with 24 points and rounds out the top five.
