Women Compete at UMASS Saturday
The Blue Devils return to action May 4-5 for the NEC Outdoor Championship at Monmouth.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team competed at the UMASS Pre-Conference Meet on Saturday where they placed six student-athletes in the top 10 of their events. Freshman Chelse Terry led the Blue Devils with a fourth place performance in the discus throw.
Terry registered a distance of 38.58 meters in the discus throw for a new personal career best. She also placed 12 out of 22 competitors in the hammer throw with a mark of 37.34 meters.
Senior Ahj Meeks and freshman Erin Howe performed well for Central in their field events. Meeks placed 11th in the high jump, clearing 1.51 meters, and Howe placed 16th with her height of 1.46 meters. Howe topped Meeks in the triple jump with her distance of 10.30 meters, good for seventh. Meeks finished eighth registering a distance of 10.19 meters.
The Blue Devils also achieved top-10 performances in the 400m dash in which sophomore Alessandra Salmon earned a new personal-best time of 59.99 and was followed by junior Meghan Burns, who crossed the finish line in 1:01.20 for ninth.
Freshman Jenean McCalla earned a new personal-best time in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:08.36 for seventh place.
Senior Dara Edge placed ninth in a field of 20 in the 100 meter hurdles with her time of 15.85.
Other notable performances for Central came in the 800 meter run with three Blue Devils earning new personal best times: sophomore Taylor LePage (2:18.41), classmate Shannon McBride (2:21.69) and freshman Ally Gates (2:27.68). Freshman Caylee Richardson followed the trio in her first appearance in the event. She placed 33rd with a time of 2:28.19.
