Dearborn Breaks Record at Terrier Invite
Krisztina Dearborn added 5,000m CCSU record-holder to her resume on Friday.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team competed at the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Friday in Boston, MA. Junior Krisztina Dearborn broke her second CCSU record of the season, this time in the 5,000 meter run. Dearborn ran a 17:29.59 in the race, ousting the previous record of 17:31.76 set in 2000 by Heather Gardiner.
This is the second record she has broken thus far in the 2013 season, the first came in the 3,000m event (10:08.33) at the Great Dane Classic on January 18.
The Blue Devils competed at the Terrier Invitational in a deep field of competitive athletes, including some NCAA leaders. The top-finisher for Central was sophomore Ronea Saunders who is following up her impressive freshman season with an equally impressive sophomore year. She placed fourth in the high jump, tying her career record of 1.75 meters.
Saunder's classmate Chantelle Deer also placed well for Central, taking 19th in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:18.33.
Senior Rachel Dombroski turned in another effective sprint performance for the Blue Devils, earning 50th place out of 155 athletes in the 200m dash. She crossed the finish line in 26.10 and was followed closely by freshman Alyssa Gonzalez (26.43, 58th) and Deer (26.55, 64th).
Junior Elizabeth Eberhardt clinched a solid distance performance, crossing the line in 5:05.27 in the one mile run event for 28th out of 123.
A duo of freshman competed for the Blue Devils in the throwing events. Chelse Terry took 33rd of 53 in the shot put (10.80m) followed by Alessandra Caponigro in 44th (9.97m). The pair swapped leads in the weight throw with Caponigro topping Terry 10.83m to 10.25m for 46th and 52nd, respectively.

Central will take to the road again on February 2 to compete at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI.
