Women's 4x400 Breaks CCSU Record
After the final day of NEICAAAs, CCSU women's track and field places 24th.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team completed competition at the 2013 New England Indoor Championships Saturday in 24th place of 34 teams. The highlight of the day for the Blue Devils came from the 4x400 meter relay team that crossed the finish line in 3:52.43, breaking the CCSU record of 3:56.57 set in 2003.
The 4x400 relay team, consisting of senior Rachel Dombroski, junior Shelby Tuttle and sophomores Ronea Saunders and Chantelle Deer, also surpassed the ECAC qualifying time of 3:52.54.
In the one mile run, junior Elizabeth Eberhardt placed 13th and set a new season-best time of 5:02.78. She also came in just over a second over her personal collegiate-best time of 5:01.60.
The 4x800 meter relay team, consisting of Eberhardt, sophomore Taylor LePage, freshman Ally Gates and senior Shannon McBride, took 16th of 24. The team crossed the finish line in 9:33.01.
Junior Shelby Tuttle, who qualified yesterday for competition in the 60 meter hurdle semi-finals, completed her race in 9.08 seconds. She finished just eight hundredths of a second short of qualifying for finals competition.
The University of Connecticut took first in the meet amassing 149.33 points. The Huskies were followed by Providence (54) and Holy Cross (51.33). Sacred Heart (51) and Rhode Island (50.50) rounded out the top five.
The Blue Devils will return to Boston University in Boston, MA on Friday, March 1 through Sunday, March 3 for the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Championship competition.
