Women's Track & Field in 5th after NECs Day 1
Sophomore Ronea Saunders earned a first-place victory for CCSU in the high jump.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team completed day one of the Northeast Conference Championships in fifth place Saturday at Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD. Sophomore Ronea Saunders took gold in the high jump competition, clearing 1.70m (5' 7") and claiming an NEC Indoor Individual Champion title. Competition will continue Sunday.
Saunders also competed in the long jump competition for the Blue Devils where she cleared 5.34m (17' 6.25") for fifth place.
CCSU record-holder, junior Krisztina Dearborn, took sixth in the 3,000 meter run for Central. She crossed the finish line in 10:15.49 for sixth place.
Dearborn's classmate, Elizabeth Eberhardt, placed third in the one mile run preliminary competition for the Blue Devils. She crossed the line in 5:08.54 to qualify for tomorrow's final competition.
Junior Shelby Tuttle, the CCSU record-holder in the 60m hurdle event, placed 5th in the event with a time of 8.97 seconds, just .06 seconds shy of her season-high mark. Her time qualifies her for tomorrow's final competition.
The Blue Devils currently rank in fifth place among the 11 NEC teams. They are preceded by Monmouth, Sacred Heart, LIU Brooklyn and Fairleigh Dickinson.
