
Bats Stay Cold As CCSU Softball Falls Twice At Army West Point
Blue Devils Return To NEC Action At Mercyhurst This Weekend
It was another tough afternoon on the diamond for the CCSU softball squad, as the Blue Devils fell in both ends of a non-conference, road doubleheader at Army West Point on Wednesday by identical 5-0 scores. Central has now been shutout in six of their last seven outings. With the two losses, the Blue Devils are now 13-23 overall, and with the sweep, the Black Knights move to 23-16 overall so far in 2025.

KEY MOMENTS FROM GAME ONE ON WEDNESDAY:
- The hosts got out the gate quickly on Wednesday, as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Army pushed across their other three runs in the opener in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Blue Devils were limited to only four singles in game one led by a pair from Ava Cino, along with base knocks from Grace Lawton and Kristina Bozek.
- Alina Varga (5-10) pitched well in the opener working a complete game in which she gave up only five hits over six innings, five runs (only three earned) with one strikeout and four walks.
KEY MOMENTS FROM GAME TWO ON WEDNESDAY:
- The nightcap was a scoreless pitchers' duel until the bottom of the sixth when the Black Knights exploded for all five of their runs.
- CCSU was held hitless until the seventh inning when Skylar Warn had a two-out single.
- Liz Hamilton (8-5) kept Army West Point scoreless until the sixth inning. Hamilton finished with a six-inning, complete game allowing those five runs on 10 hits with two Ks and just one base on balls.

- The Blue Devils return to Northeast Conference play over the weekend with their longest NEC road trip of the season heading west for a three-game series in Erie, Pennsylvania against the Lakers of Mercyhust University. The set opens with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and wraps up with a single game at 12 noon on Sunday.
