
Softball Falls To LeMoyne, 4-3, On Sunday Afternoon
Alina Varga Pitches Five Perfect Innings Out Of The CCSU Bullpen
The big hit was just not in the cards for the Central Connecticut State softball team on Sunday afternoon, as the host Blue Devils fell in the finale of a three-game Northeast Conference series to the visiting LeMoyne College Dolphins, 4-3. With the loss which snaps a four-game CCSU winning streak, Central is now 6-14 overall and 2-1 in the NEC. LeMoyne moves to 8-15 overall and 1-2 in conference action. In Sunday's contest, the Blue Devils left 10 runs on base over the course of the seven innings inning leaving the bases loaded twice, in the second and seventh frames, and having a runner thrown out at home plate. LeMoyne also committed four errors in the game.

KEY MOMENTS FROM SUNDAY'S GAME:
- LeMoyne raced out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, as the Dolphins scored two runs in both the first and second innings.
- Reagan Vunak, who went 3-for-4 at the plate on the day, got CCSU on the board with a two-run fifth inning home run; her second homer this season. She also scored two runs in the contest.
- Trailing 4-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Blue Devils scored one run on a one-out RBI-single by Ava Cino to make the score 4-3, but could not push another run across the plate leaving the bases loaded as the game ended.
- As a team, CCSU had a total of six hits on Sunday led by three from Reagan Vunak, and Grace Lawton and Skylar Warn, earn had a double.
- Alina Varga was sparkling out the Blue Devils' bullpen on Sunday working five innings of relief in which she retired all 15 batters she faced. In those five perfect innings, Varga struck out five batters.
- Adrianna Green (0-4) was Sunday's starter for CCSU and took the loss. Green pitched two innings in which she allowed four runs on eight hits with one strikeout and one walk.
- CCSU is now 5-1 all-time against LeMoyne on the softball diamond.
