
Softball Falls In 2025 Season Opener To UNC Wilmington
Ava Cino Reaches Base Three Times In The Contest
After having their scheduled season opener postponed at home last Saturday due to inclement weather, the Central Connecticut State University softball team opened its 2025 campaign on Friday afternoon in South Carolina at the Charleston Southern Tournament versus the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington, and CCSU was defeated by UNCW, 7-0. The win moves the Seahawks early season record to 4-2.

KEY MOMENTS
- Playing as the visitors, the Blue Devils were retired in order in the top of the first inning. UNC Wilmington would then score three runs in the bottom of the frame capitalizing on a CCSU error and a pair of walks to plate those runs on only two base hits.
- The Seahawks would increase their lead to 5-0 after three innings scoring single tallies in both the second and third innings.
- Central kept the opposition off the scoreboard in the fourth and fifth innings, but UNC Wilmington scored its final two runs of the afternoon in the bottom of the sixth on a one-out, two-run homer by first baseman Allison Corbin.
- The Blue Devils had their best chance to score in the top of the sixth when Reagan Vunak walked and Sophia LoPiccolo reached on an error, and then the pair pulled off a double steal to take second and third. The next batter, Kassandra (KC) Machado would then hit a fly ball to right field by Vunak was cut down out the plate trying to tag and score.
- Shortstop Ava Cino reached base all three times she came to the plate in Friday's season opener with a second inning single and a pair of walks. Cino also stole a base.
- Adriana Manory had the Blue Devils other base hit against the Seahawks
- CSSU had three steals in Friday's season opener; one each by Reagan Vunak, Sophia LoPiccolo and Ava Cino.
- Sophomore Adrianna Green (0-1) took the loss in the pitching circle as the Blue Devils' opening day starter, as she worked three innings in which she allowed four hits, five runs (two earned) with three walks on no strikeouts. Classmate Liz Hamilton worked the final three innings against the Seahawks allowing five hits, two runs (both earned) with one walk and no strikeouts.
